Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts at Clear Lake Islamic Center

Hurricane Harvey hit our city really hard. It left quite a great amount of devastation. Many homes have flooded, and many families have been displaced. Many of our fellow citizens are in dire need of any help that they can receive. Therefore, Clear Lake Islamic Center was one of the first mosques in the area to open its doors to those who needed help. Our mosques did not flood, but it suffered damage to its walls, ceiling and carpet due to water leak. Our team of volunteers participated in food drives, cleaning efforts in the nearby Hospital, as well as people’s homes that flooded. We managed to collect non-perishable food items, personal items, clothes, sleeping bags and more and delivered them to the affected families in the Clear Lake area, the nearby shelters, and the local community in the fifth ward.

This effort was a part of a concerted effort with other Muslim Organizations that united their work towards helping Hurricane victims in Houston and neighboring towns. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our neighbors at the Unitarian Church who have been our partner in this effort as well as many other projects we did together to serve our city and the Houston community at large.
