ATTENTION: In Light of Recent Events…

Many members of the community have reached out in the past few days asking about available federal resources for reporting hate crimes, bullying and harassment of students, and threats against houses of worship. To that end, we have compiled in one place a list of services and resources offered by various agencies. I strongly encourage community leaders to establish relationships with the regional offices of the agencies listed below.

  • Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights

OCR’s mission is to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence throughout the nation through vigorous enforcement of civil rights.

o   File a complaint online for bullying or harassment of students

o   Find your regional Office of Civil Rights office

o   Data on education-related civil rights incidents

  • Department of Justice, Community Relations Service

DOJ’s “peacemaker” for community conflicts and tensions arising from differences of race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and disability.

o   Find your regional Community Relations Service office

o   Information for religious groups

o   Multimedia resource center

  • FBI Civil Rights

o   Hate crime reporting process and statistics

o   Regional FBI field offices

  • Department of Homeland Security

o   Office of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties

o   Fact Sheet on Protective Security Advisor Program (PSA): PSAs are located in all 50 states and are security subject matter experts who provide voluntary security surveys and assessments of facilities, including houses of worship.

One-stop resource for identifying, preventing, and resolving issues of bullying.

This list is by no means comprehensive. I encourage anyone with questions or inquiries about these and other resources to get in touch with us, and we will do our best to connect you. In addition to working with the agencies listed above, please don’t hesitate to report incidents, concerns, and challenges to our office as well. We are working to keep track of such issues as they occur.
